Hu Die – Butterfly
(Drama, Yan Yan Mak, China 2004, 124 min, Cantonese/Mandarin/Portugese/English
with English subtitles)
Winner of the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Young Actor/Actress 2005.
First shown in Graz!
Hu Die – Butterfly uses Hongkong cinema's colorful aesthetics
to tell a gentle love story: Flavia (Josie Ho), a married teacher,
meets the young, apparently careless singer Yip in a supermarket.
Flavia, whose life is a boring monotone, starts to take care of
the young woman, thereby being reminded of a story from her own
past which she has long thought to be forgotten.
Connecting a magic love story with the often unusual visual solutions
of Hongkong cinema,
Hu Die takes its audience into another world – one of the
best films of the last five years!
